Okay I had a conversation with my sister about this and I was wondering how others felt.

So her roommate (what started the whole discussion) is planning her Halloween costume, and she wants to go as Cardi B. She is white as they come, and obviously Cardi B is much darker. She’s on the fence of whether or not crossing a race line is acceptable for a costume. She wants to use darker makeup to make her skin tone closer to Cardi’s but she doesn’t want anyone to be offended.

Personally, I never thought anything of it. People dress up as famous people all the time, crossing all kinds of lines. But I was wondering what you all think? And this isn’t only about race but also, is it okay to use a stereotype as a costume? Like an Indian (Native American) costume, or Mexican-type costume?
