Am I supposed to be checking for them myself?

I was told in the U.K. the guidelines have changed and doctors are not recommending women check their strings as its causing unnecessary  stress and worry when women can’t feel them.  I can’t feel for mine anyway as they are so short and I’ve just had to trust all the while I have no discomfort everything is fine.  I must admit it has taken the stress away.  At my checks with my gyne all has been fine.

How do you check for them yourself? I went back to the Gynocologist and she checked.

The oanohlets say its recommend to check your strings once a month, after your period because that's most likely when it would move. I have friends who never check and have never gotten pregnant. I had an IUD move because the doctor placed it wrong. I check my strings. Went to a different doctor and this one hasn't moved. Most of the time the only way it would move is if it wasnt placed correctly

Yep. Stick a finger up there and feel around for them. If you can’t feel them the strings were either cut really short or it has been displaced. Either way, if you can’t feel the strings you should get your doctor to check placement.
