Since my SO and I are trying for a baby, I feel there is more “romance” since he’s not pulling out because I’m experiencing that moment of climax with him so when we weren’t trying (but not preventing) he would pull out and it just made it feel more like sex instead of making love. That’s just how I feel though. 
If you’re trying to prevent pregnancy though, I don’t recommend the pull out method because that’s how my ex got me pregnant with my son and I was on birth control.
