plus size doppler help

I am plus size losing weight but still fat. my last doctor visit at 12.6weeks my doctor didnt even try to hear a heartbeat on the doppler said due to my size there's no point.. was a little upset and hating my body for being overweight told me my next appointment coming up on the 20th I'll be 16.6 weeks said that they would try to hear for a heartbeat on the doppler but if they cant they will need to do an ultrasound. at 9 week ultrasound there was a heartbeat so not worried about that but this is my 4th pregnancy I lost one but the other two they would always be able to hear it on the doppler even early on but him saying that about this one has me worried. I'd be happy to see my baby on ultrasound but really self hating. anyone had issues like this?
