Legal advise please

Are there any lawyers out there who can help us? We were going to buy a house, new build. It was going to take 8 months for them to build it for us. They gave us 5 days after we signed the contract to withdraw without us having to lose our earnest money, deposit for the lot, and another charge. They decided to give us 2 more days to cancel since they were changing the prices on the upgrades we wanted to get and I wanted them to investigate why that was happening. We had until 6pm yesterday to cancel and I let them know at 6 am that day. The sales lady said the cancelation had been processed and her manager was going to rip the check out. I asked her if I could keep the physical check just to make sure they wouldnt deposit it later on. She replied saying that they had actually deposited the check that morning and that I could call the bank and ask for a stop payment, which would cost me and I would be responsible for it myself or wait up to 30 days to get my money back. I read a review online of a similiar case and the guy was told the same thing except it had been 60 days and he still had not seen that check. What should I do? Can they legally do that? She said they can since from the moment we signed the contract they can go to the bank and deposit it. Idk if it's true.
