How much does your SO make?

Hi everyone! My husband is thinking of joining the army and we’re trying to figure out expenses living on his potential salary and mine. How much does your SO make in the military and what’s his rank? How much do you get for housing and groceries, etc? Really need to learn about this so any advice is helpful!

Yeah, this is very easily googled. It’s public information. BAH is dependent on where you’re at. I’m not sure of your situation but enlisted soldiers don’t make much. Officers make more. The military isn’t a great way to get rich 😂

Depends on rank and where he will be stationed.
They don't pay for your groceries. A soldier receives BAS(basic allowance for Substance) but this can be removed during trainings, field exercises or deployments, as this is given for the soldiers benefit, not for the family. I always recommend that couples not rely upon this money as a constant. Those who do, are typically financially screwed when its removed for a period. As an example, my husband's BAS has been removed three times in the last two years. During two trainings and through half of his last deployment. 
He will be paid his base pay + BAH. Included is health care, base privileges, an annual allowance for his uniforms( as Enlisted) and his BAS.
