Pumping while Breastfeeding?

I breastfeed my son for 2 years he is 5 now but just wondering if I’m the only mom that breastfed and didn’t pump at all? Is it necessary to pump while breastfeeding? I’m expecting 2nd baby and still plan on breastfeeding w/o pumping.

I didn't know if I would need one and if so which type, so I didn't buy before giving birth about a year ago. In the hospital, when my milk came in, I got so engorged that my little one couldn't latch on and I didn't achieve anything with hand expressing either. The hospital had some monster pumps we could use there, and one of them got the job done so comfortably and quickly that I instantly made a decision and had my husband buy one (a much simpler one mind you) by the time I got home. In the coming months I mostly used my pump to relieve engorgement. With my oversupply that actually built up a nice emergency staff in the freezer - that we ended up barely ever touching, but it was nice to know that we had some milk if I became unavailable for any reason. I also donated some milk to a local mom who dried up early due to some health issues and actually supplemented the formula with one full feeding of breastmilk a day. I think if I had regular supply and less problems with engorgement, I might not have bought a pump.

The only time I pumped was when I was going out for date night. I breastfed both my girls (5 years apart) for over a year. They both only had a handful of bottles. They had sippy cups at 6 months! It’s was easier than to have to take a bottle away! You do not have to pump!

I never pumped because I was never able to get one through insurance. It was ridiculous. But if you stay at home and are able to nurse on demand theres really no need for one. I had milk catchers that I used while nursing so that I had a little extra on hand if needed.

It's not necessary. I do it because I hate breastfeeding. I still force myself to put her to breast for half of her feeds though.

Nope- def don’t have to pump at all. I didn’t for 2 our of 4 kiddos. I do now, only because I had an oversupply and thought it’d be nice to have a frozen supply for when I go back to work in November. Good luck!
