Is this normal coming off birth control???

I quit my BC I'm Feb after being on it for 7 years to regulate periods. It has been 6 months off of it and my body is out of whack. I have been bleeding Like crazy. I started bleeding in April and it is off and on with breaks here and there. Well i quit bleeding Aug 1,2,3 and boom the 4th started and still going. Has anyone experienced this coming off bc? I've been to doctor and they said it's hormone withdrawal or something. Will it ever stop cause we are TTC and this pretty much screws it up. Haven't had sex since Aug 3rd and I'm going crazy. My body hates me.
