Baby shower...

I'm pregnant with my second child, a boy. My first is almost 9 years old and was a girl so we literally have no baby stuff left from her. My MIL said she was going to throw me a baby shower when I first got pregnant, but hasn't said anything since and I'm weeks now. I didn't really want her to throw me one because she wants it at her house (never clean) and she wants there to be alcohol (I asked for there not to be) and she doesn't really like me anyway so I feel like she just wanted to do it to to say she did it.

Anyway, I'm 99% positive she's not going to host, so I just wanted thoughts on throwing my own baby shower. Is that weird? I don't have any super close friends that would throw one for me, but I do have friends that would come. I just don't know if it's tacky to host myself and don't want to regret not having one. We didn't do a gender reveal or big announcement or anything like that either, and we don't even care about gifts, just gathering with family and friends to celebrate baby. Help!
