Friend diagnosed with HPV

I have a friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with HPV. She was shaken up and gave me a call, and we talked things through. I assured her that she’s still herself, she’s not “dirty” or “different” or any of it; she’s still her wonderful self.

I have diabetes, and my immune system is a bit weaker than the average non-diabetic’s. I’m curious about the spread of HPV: can it be spread by touching the same surfaces (such as doorknobs, tables, etc.)? Or is it exclusively transmitted via bodily fluids? I’ve tried to research and have found both online. I want to be sure I approach this sensitive topic in a way that both does not make my friend feel bad and that also protects my immune system.
