What makes a good mom?

Question

In your opinion, what are some things that makes a mom a good mom? 
Bonus: do you think moms are too hard on themselves to be the perfect mom?

I think being a good mum takes unlearning the negative parenting styles you learnt from your parents and peers while you were growing up. 
I think being a good mum requires a lot of self reflection. To make sure that your child is seeing and experiencing your best self. 
I think it requires listening to what your child is telling you. Not shutting them out when your child speaks on issues that maybe you don’t understand yourself because it wasn’t as known about when you were growing up. 
I think it requires love, compassion and accountability. 
Still too scared to be a mum, but I think about the responsibility a lot since having a baby sister.

There are a ton of factors that make someone a good parent. But the basis of it, imo, is the ability to put your child before yourself and others in any circumstance. Advocate for your child who can’t for themselves. Go beyond just supplying the necessities, spend time with your children and get to know them. Let them get to know you. 
I think women push themselves and hold themselves to unfair standards of the ideal “perfect mom” and social media and mom shaming being on the rise is another big part of how moms feel about their parenting abilities.

I think a lot of things make a good mother, but I'll just stick to what makes my mother amazing. 
She's my best friend (like I legitly tell her more than I tell my best friend)
She tries her absolute hardest... as of right now she is working really hard towards moving out of her cheating husbands house (my father). She has visitation rights to her preschool nephew (because his parents neglected him). About 10 years ago, she was the "safe" place for two teenage boys (her nephew who's parents were going through a nasty/abusive divorce, and her brother who was in foster care after their mom died). She survived years of sexual abuse. When she was fifteen she raised her baby nephew (my uncle is an alcoholic, and abusive fucker). When she was about 19, she was living with a friend and raising someone else's baby. She right now is battling depression, and raising a special needs son. She is legally responsible for her brother and sister in laws finances (as they are mentally disabled). And she is a refuge and place to talk for so many teens that need help. She's like an extra mom to so many that are going through troubles with their parents, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ kids, suicdual thoughts...
She's always there for anyone to talk to. And her love is unconditional ❤️.

A mother who is loving, protective, supportive, accepting, there’s so much. 
I think there are many mothers out there that are so loving and want everything to be perfect for their child, that they forget that what they do is already perfectly enough.

In my opinion, a good mom is one who loves her children and actively tries to show that daily, and one who actively interacts with her kids when she can. Just talking to them, playing with them, spending time with them. 
I think those 2 things are most important- just showing your kids you love them and enjoy them. 
My mother literally locked herself in her room for days, I don’t have a single memory of her interacting/playing with us, and I don’t remember her showing us or even telling us she loved us, and she acted as if we were a massive burden that she was forced to be stuck with. It was an absolutely horrible feeling to grow up feeling like a hated burden, and knowing that you never had anyone to turn to for comfort. It would kill me if my kids ever felt like that
I also do believe that moms are too hard on themselves, nobody is perfect, and that’s okay. As long as you love them, feed them, and have a roof over their head, you’re doing good. Don’t beat yourself up over a rough day or a little mistake

Parents are too hard on themselves but I blame society and judgemental mum shamers. First time mums are expected to worry, and these people make it 10x worse.

Unconditional love and acceptance. Growing up, I questioned my moms love for me daily (and still do, but another story). If my kids look back on our relationship in 50 years, I want them to think how much I loved them, even at their worst. I'm incredibly hard on myself, in every aspect of my life. I fail all the time. Today, I yelled at my two year old a lot louder than I should have. But I'll keep trying because they are my world
