FTM All Natural Birth!!

Sarah

I can’t believe it’s my turn!

So ever since I was 36 Weeks, I would wake up and tell myself that today could be the day! At 36+2, I was at work on my second to last day before my maternity leave started and I kept feeling little gushes. It had been going on for about a week prior but I had assumed it was just discharge. But this time it happened twice back to back instead of just after sitting or laying for a while and getting up.

I was at work and a couple of my coworkers were saying that this is how it starts! I called my doctor and they said to get assessed at the hospital so I called hubby and headed home.

We packed our bag and when we got to the hospital they said it looked like my water was leaking. They stuck a speculum in me and then the doctor says, “this is suspicious..” 😦 and she said normally when the water breaks, it will start pooling up in the vagina and they take a sample of it to check. She expected it to be broken because of how wet I was maintaining on the outside of my vagina. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it wasn’t broken and we went home.

A week later, on August 23rd (37+2) hubby and I had sex and went to bed. I got up in the middle of the night like usual to go pee and when I came back to the bed I felt some of the discharge gushes I had been experiencing for the last couple weeks. I went back to rewipe and then I felt it dripping down my legs! It pooled up on the floor! It was 1am and I was freaking out!

I didn’t know what to do and it kept dripping out so I wadded up a bunch of TP and put it between my legs and woke hubby up. He shot up out of bed and just stood there 😂😂 I asked for some towels and put it between my legs while we just stared at each other and kept asking each other what to do.

We grabbed our bag and went to the hospital!

The nurse was able to swab the fluid leaking down my legs to test it and it came back positive amniotic fluid! I laid around and I was group b strep positive so I got penicillin and still couldn’t feel any contractions so I got pitocin started at 8am. I couldn’t feel the contractions until 1pm and it just felt like period cramps but they started to get more painful and closer together until I couldn’t lay in bed anymore!

I stood up and tried to walk around the room and I asked the nurse how we know when it’s time since I haven’t had my cervix checked since the previous night when I was 2cm. She said my body will tell us. I told her my contractions were making my body push, which is the weirdest feeling ever! I could feel my body pushing and I couldn’t stop it or control it. It’s like pooping a huge turd though.

So she checked my cervix and I was 9cm. She was shocked! I told her I was feeling a pain level of 6 out of 10. I didn’t have any pain medications and I told her in the beginning I didn’t want an epidural. She had the anesthesiologist come in and talk to me about the epidural so I could “make an informed decision” before it got “crazy in here.” Lol.

She asked me if I wanted some IV pain reliever which they use fentanyl and it only lasts about 30 minutes and they won’t give it to me close to pushing time because it can pass to baby. I took it and the contractions were still very painful but it took the edge off while they got set up.

It got to the point where I was grunting through the contractions because of the pushing feeling. So we did some “practice pushes” and they had me push while they counted to 10 and then I had to hold the push so that I could continue where I left off at the next contraction. I was kind of scared to push hard lol so I was half assing it so I could push his head out slower so I wouldn’t rip or experience the ring of fire but everyone kept yelling to push and that they could see his head. So I gave it all and I felt my baby come out!

The contractions were definitely worse than pushing him out. It was quick and I couldn’t feel anything since the contractions itself was painful. They laid my baby on me and I just couldn’t believe it! I finally opened my eyes for the first time in an hour and half. I couldn’t stop saying, “oh my god” over and over and looking from baby to my husband. I pushed for 30 minutes.

The contractions stopped once he was out so I had to push the placenta out. It felt weird having the cord just hanging out of me but once the placenta came out (and fluid shot out too!) it felt sooooo much better. I felt back to my old pre pregnancy self 😂

Then I saw all the nurses and doctor and I didn’t realize so many people were in the room 😂 I ended up ripping down about an inch and up to my urethra. They had to stick a catheter in so they didn’t accidentally stitch my urethra closed. But I couldn’t feel any of what they were doing. My husband was just at my side telling me how amazing it was to see (he told me he wasn’t going to watch, but he saw our son come out), and how great I did.

While they were still stitching me up, I told my nurse, “that wasn’t even a 10 out of 10!” 😂 and I told my husband, “we make cute babies! Let’s make more!”

So Maverick Kade was born 6 pounds 4 ounces, 19.5 inches long.

Tired daddy
