Daddy at Baby Shower?

My daughter was born at 29 weeks and has spent the last 6 in the hospital. Originally, I had no shower planned, but my mom has popped up and said that she and her friends want to throw one. Cool.

My boyfriend and I are not overly social people (read: we don't socialize. Ever.]

I've been to one baby shower in my life, and I was only about 12 when that happened (it was my boyfriend-at-the-time mother's baby shower. I was only there to spend time with him, so I didn't exactly participate).

Anyway, my boyfriend is not very comfortable around people. He's not sure if it's something he should plan to go to, or if he can get out of it. Personally, I will be there and our daughter will be there. As the father, I'd like him to be there, but I'm not planning o push. (did enough of that when she was born)

I've asked for a co-ed party. But my question is- is the father of the baby generally a part of the baby shower? Or is it more if a "for the girls" thing? My mom isn't very sure either, so I'm looking for some input.

Thanks in advance!
