Pros and cons of Doppler?

Question

I keep going back and forth on whether I should get a Doppler for this pregnancy, my late one ended in a late term loss so I’m anxious about everything. My husband is dead set against a Doppler because he’s worried they’re not safe. Does anyone have any pros and cons of having a Doppler for a rainbow pregnancy?

It's very hard to find the heartbeat in the first few weeks - I am almost 12w and I havent found it yet no matter how hard i try 
If your a worrier I would stay far away from one 
I use it for fun - and that's all

Yea I just asked my OB this past week about it and she recommended no because they are not safe for baby. She said something about the sound waves. I don’t know she had me at unsafe so I’m not getting one! Plus I don’t wanna drive myself crazy always wanting to hear the heartbeat., which would ultimately lead to over using it. If you think about it, it makes those doctor visits more exciting.

There are some articles from the NIH that review the saftey issues. I believe that using a Doppler excessively can possibly have negative effects from the heat and waves emitted, or it has in animal studies, but that's all they have since they obviously can't do study's on human subjects.

I love mine I've always found the heartbeats quite easily, with my first i waited until I was about 13 weeks to use one and with my second and third I found the heartbeats at 9 weeks. The only bad thing I would say about them is I know a lot of people who use them for reassurance or something but just always make sure you see a professional if your worried over something don't use the doppler

I am super anxious due to a loss earlier this year and just got one, found the heartbeat at 10w. I told myself over and over that it would be okay and nothing was wrong if I didn't find it. I think as long as you go into it truly believing that there is likely nothing wrong if you can't find the heartbeat, then you're fine. I plan on limiting use to a few minutes, no more than once per week and i'm hoping the anxiety will settle as I go.

My ob/gyn office said my Sonoline B doppler is safe to use, which means you should be fine too❣️

Agree with below poster just a little over 11 weeks and bought a Doppler and cannot find anything, if you are easy to worry do not get one.

FDA doesn’t deem them safe for use unless a medical professional is operating it.  This is due to the sound waves it emits and it can heat up the tissues. 
I wasn’t aware of this until I researched the issue.  So I haven’t purchased one, but I still find myself thinking about getting one.

Omg this is my dilemma
I purchased one a few weeks ago and my wife is soooo against it which makes us argue. This is my 3rd after 17 years and everything about this pregnancy is different. My first girl and my wife’s first baby. She feels that it will affect the baby based on what she’s read. When I’m home alone, I want to use it and never tell her. But I just can’t... WHAT IF? I would never be able to forgive myself. We’ve had our genetic screening and thankfully there were no abnormalities. If your husband is against it, you probably should not get one. Ask your Doctor first. I think I’m going to put mine on something and sell it. I don’t want to go against my partner.
