Is it offensive to parents to call your pet your baby / fur baby?

I’ve recently found out that this harmless thing offends some parents. I don’t understand why. If you find it offensive can you explain?

In a completely different view, what about women who cannot get pregnant? Pets are the closest thing they have to children outside of adoption.

I know some women feel like you’re comparing their child to an animal. I am not one of those woman as I have a child and another on the way and I have 3 fur children 😂 💕

I call them my babies. You raise them, feed them, bath them, keep them safe, teach them things for their whole lives. Yes it's different to an actual human but it's still a life that depends on you and loves you. So I absolutely will refer to them as my babies.

Maybe you should ask them once upon a time in a polite way since they’re sensitive it’s better from the horses mouth.

I love my dog and cat. But, they’re not my children at all. I see pets and children very very differently. I’m not a mother yet so I don’t want to be called one. I don’t find it personally offensive, but I guess I find it somewhat offensive to parents because they do a lot more for a child then they do a cat or dog. The responsibility of a child is greater than a pet and what we are willing to do for our children is greater too. I see that every single day even in the people that once swore they’d do anything for their pet. But when it comes down to your pet, if often comes down to money, and if you’re choosing between a child and a pet people choose their children, as they should. I personally just find it irritating and I will correct someone if they call me a fur parent. But if someone else wants to use the term for themselves that’s up to them, I won’t call them that but I won’t argue with them. 
I’m a large animal vet and one of the many reasons I avoided small animal practice is the whole fur-baby stuff. I couldn’t stomach calling someone’s animal their baby, etc. It honestly drives me nuts.

Honestly, the only time that it really bothers me is Mother's Day. Other than that, you do you. Pets are definitely members of the family.

It’s stupid to get offended. I call my cats my babies all the time because I love them, love after them, raise them, do everything for them. Obviously my cats aren’t as hard to deal with as an actual babies but you don’t need to look so deep into it! Who cares what i call my cats 😂
