Do people NEED to know???

I'm really starting to get annoyed with people saying
"Will u let us know when ur in labour?"

Do these people really need to know??

Surely we don't need to say anything till baby is born?

37w4d and getting increasingly hormonal & grumpy so I may be wrong here, but urghh it's annoying me!

The only people were telling when I go into labor are my parents, and only because they have a 6 1/2 hour drive to make to our house. No one else will know she's here until I've delivered. No one will be invited to visit in the hospital until at least 2 hours after the birth. IMO, this time is for my husband and OUR family. I couldn't care less about upsetting anyone. The day is about us and our baby.

SO glad this is on here. I've had a few family battles over it. No, nobody needs to know until the baby is here. Period. Now a days they want skin on skin and encourage breast feeding and then I want to bond before any visitors including family come in. I've gotten to the point with my family saying they feel so unwanted and pushed away that I said ok... You don't respect my wishes?? Then I won't tel you he's here until we get home. I hate to be a bitch but I know my family and if I call them when I'm in labor, they'll show up to the hospital and wait. And ask 100 times if baby's been born yet. I am NOT dealing with that crap!

We aren't telling anyone when we go to the hospital. I don't want calls and texts while I'm in labor, or even worse people showing up. Especially with a few overwhelmingly pushy family members! After we get an hour or so with the baby we will call people

Nope I'm a bit grumpy too but it's not up to you to inform those who you don't deem important. My hubs snd I have taken the route of not saying anything until the baby and I have been moved to the mommy/baby suite. The only visitors allowed will be our kids and his mother (she's the only one available to help with the kids). We have plenty of people bothering us about when/how they'll be informed but I don't care. This is an intimate moment for us and our family not them. My parents will be informed post birth but that doesn't include an invitation to the hospital.

This might seem rude but prior to pregnancy I struggled with depression/anxiety while going back to college later in life. This pregnancy has been very difficult for me to connect with baby so I'd like time for myself and family to adjust to the new member. I am worried about PPD bc of the lack of in utero connection and my parents bring drama. Also, for my son's birth my husband was deployed. Now that's he's out of the military i want this to be a time that he can cherish.

No one NEEDS to know, they just WANT to know! It's all at your discretion.

The only people who will know I am in labor are my parents who are watching my son and my very close-knit group on Facebook who have been together since we were pregnant with our, now, 4 year olds. For me the hospital time is for my husband and I to bond with the baby and for me to recover. Everyone else can wait until we get home.

I'm fed up with that question, no one seems to think my pregnancy is a big deal on his side of the family so who the hell cares if I tell them , they want to be at hospital and etc , nope you've not been interested so far not gonna tell

This is why I love my hospital. With a c section, only one person is allowed with you, and then it's at least 2 hours after delivery for recovery before they even consider moving you to a postpartum room where visits can actually happen. So, essentially, everyone can know when we go in, but we don't have to call anyone to head up the hour + drive to the hospital until I am ready for visitors.

Same here, everyone wants to be in the waiting room and I think it's sweet... But really it's not necessary. I just keep nodding yes, but the only call I'm making is to my mom. After the baby and I have settled I'll call the in laws, and after the first week I'll start allowing home visits to extended family.

It's nice that they care, but do they really care? I don't think so. Do they expect me to be texting them updates as I go? Because I'm not. So why should I let them know that I'm in labor. Then they'll be bugging me and I will NOT be answering, then they'll probably just be irritated that I didn't respond to their texts! Ridiculous. I'm not telling anyone. I'm just going to say "Oh, my phone died and by the time my SO got the charger I totally forgot! Sorry!"
