Fetal arrhythmia

Amanda

I went to my normal 32 week OB appointment on Tuesday who said that the baby’s heart rate was low and get to the hospital ASAP. I get to the hospital and they hooked baby up to monitors and within 2 minutes, I was being rushed down the hallway for an emergency c-section. The room filled with all kinds of doctors and nurses, I signed the paperwork and thankfully my husband arrived from work right as the fetal cardiologist walked in. They suited my husband up and we were ready to go. I have gestational high blood pressure and somehow, by purely God’s grace, my bp remained low during all of this.

The fetal cardiologist did a quick ultrasound of baby and her heart and asked the doctor if she could hold off on delivering until he gave baby a thorough scan. We were told she may need a pacemaker upon birth and she could have a heart block, so be prepared. So off to the scan we went.

Baby passed 8/8 heart tests! I was admitted for observation. Baby showed her personality and kept kicking the monitors off my belly :) so a nurse would come in every 10-30 min and readjust so they could monitor. Her heart rate would go from 70 to 140 to 160 to 205 and back to 70. It finally stabilized around 140 and would drop to 70 every little bit. Her official diagnosis is fetal arrhythmia. I was given 2 steroid shots to help with lung development incase she is delivered early. We were discharged from the hospital 30 hours after my original doctors appointment. We have follow up appointments next week and I’m out of work until further notice. I was told to do the kick counts twice a day and so far, she’s surpassing those 10 with flying colors!

Is anyone else dealing with fetal arrhythmia? It is so scary! I was told not to stress and I’m doing my best. Fetal cardiologist said many times it clears on its own as soon as baby is born. OB is saying she could need a pacemaker. I’m searching for answers and there just isn’t a lot of information out there on the topic.
