Parents/Guardians using police...

La

My husband and I are both in law enforcement. Today my husband got off work and met me at the pediatricians office for our son’s one month checkup. Since he came straight from work he was still in full uniform. A lady came into the ped’s office with three kids ranging in age from probably 5-7 years. The two boys had toy tractors they were sliding along the floor. She kept telling them to sit down and they kept ignoring her.

She then says “I’m going to get that cop to arrest you and take you to jail like your mom if you don’t stop it.” She threatened this probably two or three times and the kids kept looking at us wide eyed. My husband got pretty upset by this and kept reassuring them he wasn’t going to do anything. She then told one of the boys, “I hope they have all your forms ready today so we can start you on ADHD medicine.” She also threatened all the kids that Papa would be here soon and was going to get them.

It took everything I had not to say something to this woman. She had those kids scared to death of my husband...they would run their toy along the ground, then look over at us like he was about to cart them off. This is one of the reasons why kids grow up afraid of cops. If you can’t discipline a child—which honestly, they didn’t even need it and were just playing her because they knew she wouldn’t do anything—don’t throw it off on a complete stranger, especially one who is a cop. This isn’t the first time a parent has said something like that around my husband, and it drives him crazy.
