Owlet???

So me and my fiancé really don’t have a ton of money but they last few months we’ve really been saving and have a decent amount. Now that baby girl is coming any day now my anxiety is starting to get worse. I’m terrified of SIDS as me and my fiancé are first time parents and pretty young (18/19). We’ve both bonded so much with our little girl and she isn’t even here yet. We love her so much and don’t want to risk anything and think no amount of money is a waste if it reassures us she is safe while we sleep. Has anyone used the owlet and do you recommend it? Don’t even consider the price, just give your honest opinion on the product. Please and thank you.

My son has a heart murmur and two holes in his heart. His pediatric cardiologist, one of the best on the entire east coast, advised us to NOT get an owlet monitor. It was like 30-45 minute lecture of why to not get it. In short of what all I can remember is that it won’t prevent sids from happening. It won’t tell you something will happen, only that something already has happened. A healthy heart beat doesn’t guarantee your child won’t get sids. Also they aren’t clinically tested. They get away with out testing with the fda by saying it’s a simple heart monitor. That it only gives a yes/no response for if there is a heart beat. It’s 1000% worth it. It’s alerted us to risky situations twice and I don’t even want to think about what could’ve happened without it. Never any false alarms. Plus, they have payment plans and refurbished ones!

My niece had some issues at birth and the hospital actually wouldnt let them take her home unless they had an owlet monitor. They wouldve kept her in nicu an extra week or two as a precaution if they didnt have one to monitor her.

We love ours! Haven’t had any issues unless our WiFi goes down. But the sock still sends info to base system for alerts, even though I can’t see readings on my phone. It takes about an hour to charge so if you forget to plug it in after use, it doesn’t take long to get a good charge. Some will say the sock isnt recommend because it causes more stress, but we know a community of special care and Nicu nurses that use these types of monitors on their own babies and recommended it. Just practice safe sleeping habits along with using it ☺️.

I freaked out with my first. He’s now 6 weeks old. He was born healthy 8 pounds 13 oz. he is in our room in the pack n play and we also have a video monitor so I don’t have to get up every time he squeaks. He has reflux so he spits up a lot! But being on his back is good, it wakes him up when he spits and doesn’t choke him. There’s been a ton of research on this. 
Talk to your pediatrician. SIDS is a risk for the first year. The first six months is concern of you or something rolling onto baby. after baby moves, the worry is baby rolling into something. 
I think you’ll find after the first 3 weeks or so, you’ll be more comfortable. I wouldn’t get the owlet unless baby is premature, sick, unhealthy in any way, etc. please talk to your pediatrician about your concerns and I’m sure you’ll be put more at ease.

We love ours. It does go off on occasion saying “the sock is disconnected from the base station.” Which means the sock on the babies foot is loose. The alerts scare the crap out of us but overall the piece of mind is soooooo worth it.

We love our Owlet. As first-time parents, it has really given my husband and I leave of mind. I recommend it if you can afford it. I've heard that there are cheaper alternatives in case the $300 is too much. Like I said, I love our Owlet and recommend it to anyone.
