How come everyone has early scans?

I am 7 weeks 5 days and my first appointment with doctor is at 9 weeks however the guide book sent from my maternity section says first ultrasound scan will be at around 15 weeks. I can see many of your scans at 5-6-7 -8 weeks.. how have you been lucky to see your little bean?

I think a lot of these ladies are either in the US or Canada. I’m in the UK and had my first midwife appt at 8 weeks, have to wait until I’m 13 weeks (!) for my first scan - just under two weeks to go! We were tempted to go private and get an early scan but held out in the end, the wait is driving me nuts! 😂🙈😝😊

I think it depends MAJORLY on the doctor you use, and also insurance. My previous obgyn I recieved US and pics everytime I went (I have at least 10). My current I will only recieve about 5 or so, maybe even less. Same insurance both times though.

I was like 10 weeks and 3 days and begged to see the ultrasound and hear the heartbeat and they wouldn’t let me lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ they said I’ve have to wait and it’s not standard procedure. How other people are getting them so early, I’m not sure lol

Mine was at 6/7 weeks. I'm from the Netherlands and it is usual that you call the doc when you know that you are pregnant and your first appointment is 3 weeks after. You get ultrasound at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks and then every 2 weeks until birth. Weekly when it are twins. But when you tell the doc you don't remember your first day of last period they usually tell you to come within a few days.

I did ivf so get an early scan at 7 or 8 weeks. In the UK, the first scan is at 12 weeks.

If you’re not at risk for anything, some doctors won’t do a scan till 20 weeks. If your doctor doesn’t think you need an ultra sound then it’s a good sign.

Ive had multiple miscarriages and also used Femara. At 5 weeks my hcg was high so my doc thought it was a multiple pregnancy. One baby, but she asked me to come back a week later to check for heartbeat. Then I had the 8 week scan. She’s scanning again next week and doing blood work. If all is still well, then I will not be scanned until 20 weeks probably.

I’m from Ontario Canada and they do a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks most of the time. Then 12 weeks you do an ultrasound and blood work if you want to do the screening for chromosome abnormalities etc. And then the last one is at 19 weeks for gender and to look at all the organs. 
After that there aren’t anymore unless you are having difficulties.

I conceived via IVF. Reproductive Endocrinologists routinely do several early ultrasounds before they discharge to a regular OB. I had ultrasounds about weekly from 5-8 weeks. Now that I’m working with an OB, I’ll have monthly ultrasounds.

I had a miscarriage last year so my OB wanted to confirm the pregnancy and look at the heartbeat- plus my insurance covers 2 ultrasounds (not high risk) one for dating EDD and the other one (18-20 weeks) for the rest of the tests and gender.
