Does an unconventional spelling actually make a common name more original, or more of a hassle?

I've noticed a huuuuuge trend lately of people purposely misspelling names (that traditionally only have one spelling) to make it "unique"... But at the end of the day it's still said the same way. Like Mareigha instead of Maria or something. I understand some names do have a lot of spellings like Katie, Catie, etc but now people are spelling a lot of names differently.

I'd love to hear from people who have an uncommon spelling. Do you like it, not mind, or is it just a hassle?
