Dog drinks his own pee 😷🤦🏻‍♀️

So, I live in a part of the US that’s being affected by Hurricane Florence, not the coast, but we’re still getting wind and rain. My dog has become scared to go outside and do his business, so unfortunately, he’s been doing it in the house. We’re being tolerant with him because he is 13 years old and he does have hip problems, but today, when he’s been peeing, he’s also been licking up the pee. Like, he’ll pee on the floor, sit in it, and lick it up...it’s pretty gross. My mom has been getting angry with him, and I understand why, but i think it makes him more scared. Normally, we would see a vet but tomorrow is Saturday, and our vet is closed. He has a water bowl really close to where he likes to lay, so he definitely shouldn’t need to drink his urine. Has anyone’s dog ever done this before?

Update: I tried explaining to my mom that she shouldn’t get so mad at him because it probably makes him feel even more ashamed but she just got mad at me too 🙃
