First time Daycare Mom- minor(?) incident at pick up
Our boy is 10.5 months old and is the 'wobbler' class at his daycare center. Think of it as crawling/almost walking infants. The class of 4 combines with the older toddler classes (16 kids) for breakfast and afternoon gym time. When my husband and I picked up our son he had a wadded up piece of black duct tape in his mouth the size of a quarter. We even spoke with his teacher while holding him before we left and she didn't notice it then either. I noticed this long hair hanging out of his mouth and pulled to find it was attached to this wad of tape. I'm not sure what to do with this. Should we tell them or brush it off? This is after the asst. director confronted us after I asked his teacher yesterday about my son's bottle schedule- sometimes he drinks one bottle, sometimes two, sometimes it's 10 oz instead of 5. She walked up to us with a bit of a defensive attitude and said "What's up with you? I heard you were upset.". We said it was resolved. Thank you and left.
They also recently lost and replaced a bottle and pacifier as well. What would you do? Do you say something about everything or the tape? Has anyone else had this happen before? I always wonder how we should find a different daycare, but we are reluctant to switch in case it could be worse or the same somewhere else. I appreciate any feedback, especially from childcare workers. Thank you.
****UPDATE****
My husband called the daycare center and spoke with the director about the tape. She was very concerned with the safety issue and is having the gym deep cleaned and calling an all-staff meeting to discuss the situation. Another parent brought to her attention the poor attitude of the assistant director towards us and she apologized. Apparently his teacher thought we were unhappy when we brought up our concerns and 'cried' to the asst. dir. who became defensive for the upset teacher. She's going to discuss with the teacher that we are more than within our rights as parents to bring up our concerns and we won't bite if she has concerns as well -the teacher is new to the facility and us. The asst. dir. gets to hear how she needs to chill out. #highschoolgirls
