My friend met this guy on a cruise last spring break (we're seniors in college) and he is at West Point military academy in New York. They only spent a week together in person, but have snapchatted and face timed for a while now. He wants to pay to fly her out to a military ball they're having in a few weeks, but she doesn't want to go unless I come with her. So basically, I have a guy I've never met offering to pay for a ticket to NY for me and I would be one of his friends' date for this ball. Apparently it's hard for guys at the base to get dates because they're always on the base, so they pay for girls to come out all the time. My friend and I would split a hotel room and stay together. Am I basically becoming an escort if I take a free plane ticket to NY to be a stranger's date to a military ball? Would you go?

Well he isn't paying you for a date. He is basically paying for you to come out so your friend will come and he is finding you someone to go with so you won't sit in a hotel room bored

I went to the submarine ball with my (now husband) after only a month of dating and it was amazing. You get to dress up and do your hair and makeup and it it like you are a princess at a royal ball. Plus they look hot in the uniforms and it isn't like you have to sleep with or even kiss the guy you are going with.

Why not go? Isn't almost gentlemanly for him to finance his dates "chaperone" to ensure her comfort? It seems like a sweet gesture really. And then you can meet him in person to make sure he's a cool guy.  :)

I look at it like this, he's providing transportation to a ball. Would you have thought you were peostitutinh yourself if your date to senior prom in High School paid for the limo? Do you consider yourself an escort if your date picks you up and drives you to the movies? Yes, he's providing a longer distance transport, but either way he's just ensuring that you, and his date, have a way to get to the ball.
