Should larger tables be reserved for larger parties?

My husband & our family went to dinner last night, there were 5 of us so we needed the big booth in the shape of the “c” since the regular booths hold 4.

When we walked in we were told it’d be a 45 minute to an hour wait even though there were only about 5 tables full. All 3 of the c shaped booths had either one or two people in them.

I feel like if this would’ve been planned better, us as well as the party behind us who had 6 could’ve been seated sooner. The party behind us ended up going elsewhere which was profit loss for the restaurant

What are your thoughts?
