Why 12 weeks

I may seem a little silly for asking this question....

But what is so special about 12 weeks and onwards for announcing??

It's because until 12 weeks, your baby is living off it's egg yolk while your body prepares and grows the placenta. At 12 weeks, YOUR body takes over sustaining the fetus. Until 12 weeks, your body produces progesterone but the fetus largely lives off it's own yolk. So after 12 weeks, viability increases dramatically. You can still miscarry past that, but it's less likely to be spontaneous and more because of a fetal defect than "weak egg" sort of

I had a miscarriage my first time being pregnant, and didn't even want to tell some of my friends about it (even the few I had told about the pregnancy already), I just wanted to have time with my husband and family to grieve. When I got pregnant again, I decided to wait until about 14/15 weeks to announce, just in case; I still told close friends and family, but not as many as last time, because I knew who I would want to cry to if it happened again.

It's all about personal preferences, I don't mind people knowing I've had a miscarriage, I just don't want attention brought to it while the pain is still fresh.

Its when you risk if misscarriage decreases significantly. Many wait that long just to b sure they dont tell the world then have to also share the bad news if something happens. I didnt care i told at 7 weeks afrer i got confirmation from my doc. Plus if i did hve a miscarriage i wouldnt have wanted to go through that alone.

I miscarried at 14 weeks and a friend of ours miscarried at 22. So I'm pretty bias on announcing when you are comfortable but not because 12 weeks is the "safe zone". Bad things can happen at any time. The miscarriage goes down after 12 but there is always that chance. We feel every pregnancy should be announced and celebrated no matter how early in the pregnancy. But like I said we are bias because of what happened with our first pregnancy.
