A pregnancy symptom you shouldn't ignore...

Itching! For a couple months, I've been dealing with intense itching all over my body. I just ignored it for a while. I assumed it was a typical pregnancy symptom. Well, I finally decided to mention it at my 28 week appt. I just wanted to see what my doc thought about it. They immediately told me that itching like that was not normal and had me tested for something called Cholestasis. The test came back positive.

Many have not heard of it, so let me explain. Cholestasis is a condition in pregnancy in which your body is not responding well to pregnancy hormones. It usually occurs later in pregnancy. The big thing to know is that it will usually cause itchy skin and is considered very high risk if left untreated or undiagnosed. With additional monitoring, your chances of having a healthy baby are GREAT. Without additional monitoring, it can put your baby in danger.

I AM NOT trying to scare anybody or cause panic, but I am trying to prevent any mom from doing what I almost did... ignoring symptoms of a very serious condition simply because I didn't realize it was a possibility. If you are feeling itchy or really if anything feels off, please tell your doctor to be sure you and baby are OK!
