Negative on day of expected period

When do you count yourself out ? Today was my expected period ... I always have symptoms (over emotional, a pimple pop up, craving sweets and I never eat sweets) but this time none of those .. i always test early but because I had no period symptoms I told myself I would wait until the day of my expected period (I am fairy regular minus two very late periods I have got in the past year) I just knew I was going to see a positive but nope big fat negative ... now I did take it this evening & not early morning but I feel like if I was no matter what it would be a faint line at the least. We have been trying for a year ... I got pregnant in April and immediately miscarried the same week I found out ... I was praying this was it as my doctor told me if I wasn’t by this cycle we would do some testing to see if anything was going on ... anyways - has anyone ever got a negative and then was pregnant ?
