I wouldn't be particularly mad but I'd probably tease them about it a bit, as if their kid was my kid's son. Like "look Jack, there's your son!" 
However, I would be more mad if I were the grandparents. Like a cousin with a similar name isn't a big deal. But I just imagine people running into old friends at the supermarket... "yeah we have two grandsons now... Jack and Jackson... yeah I know..."  In my opinion, the grandparents are the real victims here.

I have two first cousins both named Ricky. Never been an issue at family functions. We call one Ricky Rick and the other Ricky. Also, my uncle Armando had sons by 2 different women and they both named their sons Armando. We call his oldest Mando and the youngest Little Mando. Yeah there are times when we get them mixed up or call the wrong name, but no one gets butt hurt.

If y’all are close, yes. Most likely they’ll shorten Jackson to Jack or Jax anyways. That’s WAY to close for first cousins. Imagine Christmas and Thanksgiving and people are trying to get the attention of your child but end up having to say “no, not you the other one”.. which no one owns a name but since they’re literally the SAME name and y’all are close relatives, I would be pretty aggravated and tell them about it. It’s kinda weird. Probably not even go to their families events or anything anymore. I wouldn’t want my kid to have to compete or be confused all the time because they want to be ignorant.

I think he can name the kid whatever he wants, but that will definitely get confusing at family gatherings. On one side we have 2 Jimmies and a Jimbo and it's very difficult for people to figure out who you're talking about and it's hard for people to keep their names straight when they're talking to them

Most of my cousins have the same middle names, me included. No big deal. My moms name is Gwendolyn and most of her cousins her age group are also named Gwendolyn.

Who cares? If they wanted to use the exact same name they can. Anyone can name their kid whatever they want. It’s dramatic to get upset because at family functions there will be two kids with the same name. It’s not that critical in the grand scheme of life.
