D&C advice?

It looks like after my miscarriage there’s still placenta left. My doc is giving me another week for it to come out naturally (although work won’t let me do it next Friday I’ll have to wait 2 weeks since it’s technically “elective surgery” and if I get “elective surgery it has to be when the company can let me go. I only have enough sick/vacation time to let me go day of so I need it Oma weekend for recovery. I’m scared. I’ve never been under general anesthesia and usually burn through meds quickly and need double doses. I don’t want to wake up in the middle of surgery, but on the flip side I’m scared of not waking up at all. Any advice on this surgery, or just surgery in general? Despite all my health issues I’ve never needed surgery and it scares me

I had a d&c for retained placenta and the surgery take just a bit, maybe 20 minutes or something so you don't really have time for the anesthesia to wear off and for you to wake up. I was also scared as f about the general anesthesia even though I've been through one before. The procedure went smoothly, I had only little bleeding after that and no pain. The only pains I experienced were due to the fact that general anesthesia numbs all your muscles and it take a couple of days for your body to get back to normal, so muscle pain. I would advise you to not wait very long because retained tissue is no joke. For me it caused massive bleedings with huge clots. Everyone reacts differently and you might not have that but it's best to get it done as soon as you can so your body can get back to normal.

They rarely use general anesthesia for a D&C , also the crna monitors you continuously so you don’t wake up.

Very sorry for your loss. From being at D&Cs- they are very quick procedures- like less than 10 minutes from start to finish so your sedation won’t need to be in place long and there will either be an anesthesia nurse or anesthesiologist (doctor) there the entire time monitoring your breathing. If you twitch or anything, the OB will tell the anesthesia team that you twitched and they will monitor to make sure you are fully sedated. There is constant communication and you are hooked up so they can monitor breathing, heart rate, etc and can see from those patterns how sedated you are. 
I am sorry you have to go through this but I want to ease your mind that D&Cs are quick procedures that are super routine so the team around you will know what they are doing and if something is abnormal, will know how to spot it quickly and troubleshoot from there. 
Definitely let your team know you are what is called a “fast metabolized”- meaning medication goes through your system fast.
