Why TTC is like being in HS...
I've been thinking about this a lot. The best analogy I can think of is TTC is like being in HS and wanting to be in college (pregnant). Everyone in college tells you how awesome it is (or alternatively complains about things you would love to be complaining about) but that you can't understand until you get there. You feel left out and behind. You dream about what you would be like in college. And you can't make yourself get there any faster...time seems to move so slowly. If you know people in HS who are graduating (TTC forum boards), you get the sense they will leave you behind and forget about you once they get to college (pregnant).
However, there is one huge, vital difference. With college, you actually work hard to get there and it is on the basis of your hard work that you get admission. With TTC, it is not determined by your hard work (working harder at TTC doesn't guarantee a pregnancy) and so much of is due to genetics, environment, and sheer luck. I feel like we women put so much pressure and blame on ourselves when we don't get pregnant. (With every AF thinking "there's someone thing wrong with me...it's my fault...I'm such a failure...everyone else can do this but I can't.") But that would be like blaming ourselves for not winning at poker or slot machines. Sure, you can do things to improve your advantage but we can't make ourselves win. We can only do our best and be kind to ourselves in the process. :)
