First time mom with a NICU baby..

Cierra

My son was born at 37 weeks, classified full term but technically still very immature. He weighed 5lbs, 14 oz.

Because I had a combination of Gestational diabetes and hypertension.. my little prince was born with some extremely immature lungs. He was in a warmer because he couldn't regulate his body temperature on his own, a bubble cpap was put on him for his lungs because he couldn't quite breathe room air. Everything he ate.. he just spit right back up, so he was put on a calorie IV. He obviously had to be on a blood pressure and heart monitor like most NICU babies.

His weight dropped to only 5lbs 4 oz.

On day 3 in NICU, we got the bubble cpap off! I was so excited that my little boy was finally able to breathe room air!

Unfortunately, that same night.. he developed borderline jaundice, so he had to lay on a UV blanket.

Day 4 came & I got a call from the doctor saying his jaundice is still there, but the levels dropped dramatically, and wanted me to room in at the hospital so he could go home the next day.. all just over night!

Now my little one is 2 weeks old on the dot, doing amazing, and happy & healthy as can be!

I wanted to post our NICU story, because whether it's 4 days, or 6 months in the NICU, away from your baby.. it's still hard. We all shed tears, we all get stressed, we're all NICU moms, and we all get through it.

Keep your head up mama, you're doing great!
