So my little guy is 15 days old he has had a fever the last 3 days. Our hospital couldn’t find a reason for the fever and was unable to perform the needed tests so we were direct admitted to the picu in a big hospital 2 hours from home.

They did a lumbar puncture, labs, straight catheter, chest X-ray, and have him on iv antibiotics. Watching him get poked and be so uncomfortable makes me so sad.

The doctor said she is very very concerned about him his kidney function labs came back pretty crappy and she said babies this young don’t just get fevers for no reason. He has no other symptoms which she didn’t like. He just has a fever and is fussy and not eating. 😢

I asked the nurse last night why he was in the picu and not the nicu out of curiosity. She said her and the other nurses were talking about it earlier because they were all really surprised as well. She said he is one of the youngest the picu has had they don’t get babies this young very often and the only guess the nurses had as to why the doctor picked picu over nicu was that they have no idea why he has a fever and didn’t want to risk exposing the nicu babies to what ever he has.

We have been here 2 days now and if he is doing better and everything comes back okay we can go home tomorrow if any labs come back bad then we have to stay for a full course of antibiotics.
