Reluctant Sibling

Amanda

I'm currently 36+4 with a healthy baby boy, and wishing my 8-year-old stepdaughter would act more excited about the baby. Well, sometimes she 'acts' excited, wanting to feel the baby's head when he pops up, and cooing over cute onesies, but she refuses to verbalize her interest. She was so set on getting a baby sister, and was devastated when she found out it was going to be a boy. Every time someone asks if she's excited about being a big sister, she crosses her arms and pouts, saying, "I wanted it to be a girl!" She will randomly bring the topic up, saying, "I don't want to be a big sister," and things like that.

Daddy and I both wanted a boy, so I am beyond excited about my baby boy. My stepdaughter and I have a pretty good relationship, and I really wish she would get over this hangup so we could share in the joy. We also just finished a 'Big Brother/Sister' class at the hospital, and I was envious of all the other kids spontaneously kissing their mommas' big bellies and talking to their unborn siblings.

Aubrey is really good with little kids at her mammaw's and the playground, and I feel like she will be a good big sister once the baby is born. I guess I just needed to rant a little about how she is currently acting.

Does anyone have stories about reluctant siblings that had an attitude change after the birth?
