Will pumping get easier?

I really feel like my milk just doesn't come out fast enough when I pump. I plan on going back to work soon but with a baby feeding every hour it's almost pointless to pump. Will the flow get faster or will I ever be able to catch up?

If your baby is eating that frequently it's not surprising you aren't getting much when you pump. She wont be eating between pumps while your at work so you are likely to pump more. Also try massaging your breasts while you pump, it can help express the milk. Best of luck!

I always had trouble pumping. A warm compress (or microwave heat pack) was super helpful and I had to massage my breasts. I also could only pump one at a time or I got nothing.
I was told not to watch the milk flowing into the bottle, but I found that I got less unless I watched to see which massage type and place was working best.
Looking at pics and videos of your baby can help, too.
Most importantly, don’t let ANYONE tell you how long and how often you “should” pump. I needed 30 minutes to set up, pump, and clean up. It took me a long time. And I needed to pump every 2-3 hours.

Some women never respond to a pump so there’s no guarantee.

Make sure you’re using the highest setting possible that you’re still comfortable at. Massage your breast while you pump & warm your flanges - Lansinoh makes special heat/cool packs for around your flanges. This should help. Also early morning hours are the best time to pump, you have the most milk & it’s the fattest.

I pumped 2 times a day in an 8 hour shift. I fed on demand for 14 months, but my supply stayed the same.
