My MIL wants to raise my baby 😳

This past weekend, my husband and I had to drive home for a wedding. To give you some background, we live about 4 hours away. We stopped by to visit my in-laws as their place is on the way into town. My FIL was still at work so we’re just chit chatting with my MIL. We started talking about baby stuff and my MIL said “don’t forget to buy a second crib when you start buying stuff.”

My husband and I were both kinda confused, and thought maybe she meant she wants us to leave one upstairs and one downstairs so it’s always easily accessible. So the convo continues:

Us: why do we need 2 cribs?

My MIL: ...because the baby needs to sleep in a crib! You can’t just let baby sleep in the same bed!

Us: we understand, but why do we need TWO cribs?

My MIL: so you can leave one here, and one at your house.

Us: Why do we need to leave one here?!?

My MIL: SO I CAN WATCH THE BABY

Us: *awkward silence then in unison* nooooo.....

My husband: WHEN DID WE ASK YOU TO WATCH THE BABY?!?

My MIL: huh? I’m not watching the baby?....

This was followed by my MIL telling us how we could save money if she watched the baby since she would only be charging us $100/month, and she would have our baby potty trained within a year (she said as long as baby can talk and understand it will be easy). I told my MIL thank you, but I’m sorry there’s no way I can give away my baby. She proceeded to tell me it’s not “giving away” and that it’s only the first year so she can potty train the baby. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣💀

Y’all. All I could do was laugh it over. Can’t wait to see what other ideas my MIL is hiding 🤣

edit just to clarify, my MIL lives about 4 hours away in a different city, and told us “we can visit baby every month or so when we’re free” 💀
