How much does giving birth cost in the US?

I know obviously it depends on insurance and where you live and what not, but what on average is the cost you have to pay when you give birth in the hospital in America? Or a price range? I don’t have any clue so I’d love a starting point.

I didn't pay a penny but I get free NHS treatment in Scotland ... Didn't realise other people have to actually pay to deliver their own baby in a hospital 🙄 I thought it was free to have a baby in hospital lol I've never paid medical bills dentist doctors the lot I get on NHS

I was induced due to gestational hypertension which later turned to preeclampsia. Was on magnesium for 48 hours. Group Strep B positive. Had an epidural. Was in the hospital from Thursday evening to Monday evening. The only thing I paid for out of pocket was the medication they sent me home with! I think my costs were like $80k.

I labored naturally for about 16 hours in the hospital and got an epidural, pushed for almost 5 hours with vacuum assistance for the last part and then ended up having a c-section and stayed in the hospital 2 days after delivery. The overall changes for me and my daughter were just over $35,000. After insurance paid their part, we owed a little over $5000.

In Alaska a straightforward natural birth in the hospital is around $20k. Caesarean is $30+, depending on complications. I don’t have insurance so I’m going through a birth center, will cost about $10k-12k

If you qualify for medicaid it’s basically 100% covered. It’s much better than regular insurance.
