Elective induction?

Is it just me or do OBGYNs seem to offer inductions pretty freely? I mentioned to my doctor that I am anxious because my husband works a couple of hours away from home and that I am nervous about the unpredictability of labor and she was like, "depending on the circumstances we can induce at term". TBH I am tempted by the prospect of choosing when labor begins. I didn't have a choice with my first, as I was very low fluid. What are your experiences with opting for inductions?

Have heard it can suck as u r making ur body do something it wasnt ready to do it..at it can lead to other interventions as well..so if ur all good with that then go for it...i have seen a few posts that say it went fine as well and didnt last too too long.

I was induced with my last son so that my husband was home because he travels for work also and it was the most difficult labor ever; never again. I am going to 42 weeks if my baby doesn’t come before then on his own.

Ugh mine said he can do it starting at 39 weeks, I have no idea why! Risk of c-section way too high and I hear the wait is super painful!

Mine sure as hell hasn’t offered. I’m practically begging for one. Other than being miserable, it’s for the same reason as you. Husband works 1 1/2 hours away. I have 2 kids that take an hour round trip to pick up. My hospital is 45 min in a totally different direction. I can’t deal with unpredictable

I’ve been offered to be induced at 38 weeks (nov 2nd) cause of
Shoulder dystocia risk if he gets any bigger and have the right to accept or decline just so happens that hubby works out of town  and the thought of scheduling it works for him to come to the birth for sure. But I think if you don’t need it for medical reasons no need to use it !

I think there were newer studies showing it can be done without major issues as long as you are at term. My ob offers it at 40 weeks

My husband is oilfield so I’m being induced again since he works so far away. Our first was so easy I’m hoping for the same experience

I’m having to be induced due to medical reasons but my doctor said no matter what he didn’t want me to go past 41 weeks due to the many risks that can come with it.
