Are babies tested for stds when they are born?

I have genital herpes and gave birth to my son vaginally but I didn't have an outbreak. Does the hospital automatically test babies in situations like that when they are born or does it have to be requested?

I’m pretty sure you should’ve had a c section if it was something that the baby would contract vaginaly cause during pregnancy they test u for std’s over and over so if they know you have it they would avoid the baby having it if possible

Did you tell your doctor you had it before hand? You should of told your doctor so they could have taken precautions like antibiotics before birth. You can tell the babys pediatrician maybe they will test.

You probably should have asked while you were in the hospital. Did your dr at the hospital know you had it?

They should’ve prescribed you medicine so you didn’t give it to him during birth.

Did they know you had that? Where I am normally they do c sections for people with genital herpes even if you aren’t having an outbreak at the time

Maybe if they are aware that the mom/dad is a carrier of something then they’ll test the baby 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you tell them what situation and ask then I'm sure they would. Do they know you have it but you weren't currently having an outbreak?
