Over a week late

Ok so I had an appointment the 24th of this month for my yearly.. they did a pregnancy test and it was a bfn.. after my pap smear she was like I'm going to put you on birth control to keep your periods coming on time.. but don't start them till you start your period.. she they said I believe you should start within the next two weeks but if you don't take a other test in two weeks.. ok being a doctor shouldn't she have done more the one pregnancy test or should I just do like she said.. I'm 8 days late and still no signs of af
