Is the little girls costume offensive?
I use to watch this family a lot a couple years back but have since got busy with life but this topic interested me. I'm sorry if it's redundant to a past topic, if so I'll delete it.
Firstly I want to say that I see both sides so I'm unsure how I really feel about it and I am hoping to be enlightened one way or another.
So this family dressed up in a family costume and everyone is kind of obvious what they are except the little girl. She was suppose to be a robber but many people are convinced she's actually portraying a poc in a negative stereotypical way- the track suit, large chain, and gun (I know race topics aren't allowed in CC so I'm not discussing that part)
Some are mad she doesnt look like a robber, Others are mad that she has a toy gun.
My question is, knowing that she was intended to be a robber, does this costume still come across offensive?
I have to say "robber" isn't the first thing that came to mind. I thought rapper and wondered how that fit in with the theme.
The mother has refused to make an apology saying "there is nothing to apologize for and those accusing her of being racist are the actual racists because all types of people have these items" her daughter is wearing.
Bonus: Should she apologize anyways?
