Anyone get tested for Toxoplasmosis?

I sent a MyChart message to my doc asking about my cats, and her nurse scheduled me a blood test to check for toxoplasmosis.
Anyone get this done? Did you have to pay out of pocket for it?

I'm a vet tech and toxoplasmosis and relatively common in cats. If your dr recommends it, it may be more prevalent in your area. I don't see why insurance wouldn't cover it, but it depends on what your plan is.

I have cats—I haven’t had this done. But now I am curious. Why did she schedule this for you? Because it was requested?

I have three cats and haven’t been tested either. If they offered it, I’d probably check first my insurance covers it but since my kittos are indoor only, the risk is minimal. Just make sure that if you do clean the litter box, that you wash your hands well. I have also read that cleaning the litter box everyday/multiple times a day helps minimize transmission as the parasite needs time to mature. Getting rid of cat litter frequently ensures that this doesn’t happen. 
On a side note, my sister in law is a vet and was tested (which makes sense due to her frequent contact with random cats) and her tigers came back negative meaning she’s never been exposed. Just practice good hygiene and your risk of exposure should be low.
