How did you get your baby to latch?

I couldn’t get my son to latch in the hospital so I started pumping and I really want to put him on my boob but I’m a little nervous about trying by myself 😭 I met with a lactation consultant and she advised me to literally just smash his face into my breast but I felt horrible when we tried it, he gets so angry and I hate seeing him cry

There’s also helpful videos on YouTube. One in particular helped with my daughter: holding the breast so the nipple is on baby’s nose then sliding it down when baby’s chin is down and mouth open. A bit difficult to explain with words but the video helped!

Get a nipple shield! My son wouldn’t latch at first bc my nipples kept getting inverted and that really helped!

My aunt had lots of trouble breast feeding and for some reason literally smashed her sons face into her boob, which clearly didn’t work, just upset him and she was already worked up so that didn’t help. My mother would usually just put her nipple by my brothers mouth and kind of move it around a little in his mouth to get him to realize and latch on . It took a few tries and a few minutes but he eventually latched. Not sure if my advice will help but good luck girl . Be patient ❤️

Have you spoke to a lactation consultant? My lactation consultant saved my life multiple times. 
 Grab the outside of your Ariola (sometimes I have to grab both sides) 
Baby comes with their mouth open and you flick the nipple downward on the bottom lip and push the nipple into baby’s mouth

I would try hand expressing milk and rubbing it on your nipple or putting a little sugar water on your nipples works too, that’s how I got my first baby to latch on.

I used a nipple shield. One day when he was about a month old he decided he would just latch. My lactation consultant said to try the bare nipple each time before using the nipple shield. I would do that and when he wouldn't latch and started getting mad I would use the shield. I would say offering the bare nipple still did some good since he did end up latching on. Also, if I had not offered it I wouldn't have given him the opportunity to latch when he did. When he did decided to latch on he never used the shield again.

I use a nipple shield. It is seriously sooooo much easier to get him to latch. He’s 6 months now and we still use it because I don’t care to wean him off it.

Hand expressing a little breastmilk onto my nipple helped my baby figure it out! There’s a ton of videos/articles about this online, The process can be super frustrating at first but don’t give up.
