Word of advice to ladies TTC!

Sara

I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it can help another woman.

I highly recommend getting a general blood test before trying to conceive. I had a missed miscarriage at 6 weeks. I got pregnant again two months later and my doctor sent me to get a blood test (specifically she was testing my thyroid levels, anti thyroid antibodies, anticardiolipinas, and beta 2 glycoprotein). The test showed that I had low TSH. What’s interesting is that I was actually in the normal range (on the lower end) but my doctor explained to me that during pregnancy that can be dangerous because the baby might not be getting thyroid hormones and that it could have been a factor in my miscarriage. Now I am taking a tiny 25 mcg thyroid pill everyday (have been since 5 weeks) and I am almost done my first trimester. I sometimes wonder if I had gotten a general blood test before TTC and had started taking the pills if I wouldn’t have miscarried. But I don’t want that to happen to anyone else!!!
