C-section issues

Ok ladies, I have an appointment tomorrow morning to check the position of my baby. I’m 39 weeks and when my doctor checked last week he couldn’t tell if baby was head down or not. I think baby is transverse but will know for sure tomorrow. If baby isn’t head down my doctor wants to try to turn baby. I’ve done my research and am not sure if I want an ECV so I might just opt for a csection. I’m terrified of a csection, for many reasons. Can anybody help me out? How painful is it after? How long does recovery last as compared to a vaginal birth? Anything you’d like to share would be welcome!

And for those that might say it, I’m not interested in trying to birth a transverse or breech baby vaginally. My daughter was head down and hat labor and delivery was hard enough at 30+ hours.
