I never do it. My baby fusses and then we get really sweaty and sticky and cold after we separate.

Try the kangaroo system, the prolonged s-to-s May be more comfortable. You can always do it with thin clothing on to have a barrier, just to enjoy the bonding. Stick with it and maybe speak with a lactation consultant or nurse who specializes in this, skin to skin is extremely important and healthy for you and your baby and should be encouraged and enjoyable. It’s definitely encouraged because a few studies have shown it encourages bonding and can help improve their immune system.  So I’d say see if there are ways you can do skin to skin in a less stressful way- like taking showers or baths together. My five month old hates the bath so I sit in there with him and we get tons of skin to skin. I also baby wear him sometimes and that’s another way you can do it.

I did skin to skin with my oldest a lot mainly to help with breast feeding but my second I didn’t really do it cause the nurse kept telling me that since she was so tiny (only 5lbs exact) she would get to cold which she did get cold very quickly even if I had a heavy blanket on the both of us. But just holding her so she right against you and her face is touching your skin is enough to get the bonding and the good bacteria from your skin to help her immune system.
