Any stay at home moms on here? How do you afford it?

Trying to figure it out with my husband, expecting our first baby and I don’t want to miss a thing! I’ve always known that I wanted to be a stay at home mom, we’re just not 100% sure on how to make it work.. Any tips, advice, and experiences would be super helpful!!

It's definitely an adjustment. We got rid of cable and just stream tv, that has saved us about $100/mo. We also got a Costco membership, which helps! Basically, we cut out all non-essentials. I also never buy new clothes/toys for my daughter...99% consignment!!

Realized it’s too expensive for daycare. Even if we work separate shifts, we still have to deal w gas & a babysitter for a few hrs. The average pay for daycare & babysitters here is 12-15$ an hour. Average pay for part time is minimum wage. 🤷🏻‍♀️ we just make it work by prioritizing things.

I think it Depends on what he makes monthly, what the situation is. My SO makes 4k a month take home. We do great with his income. But now I’m gonna graduate college soon and going to work because I’m tired of being home. Ready to have my own money to spend too.

We dont spend too much on unnecessary things or eat out often. I also am able to get WIC and foodstamps so that helps out a lot. He has a pretty good job, as an assistant manager. We also do Uber eats on the side just for extra money even though we don't need it like crazy. It's pretty fun cause I get to go with him. I'll be a stay at home mom soon too as well!

We just don't buy any unnecessary things. BUT we are very minimal, especially with material things. so it's not too bad. the most we spend on is food, but ya know.... we need that, lol.

Budgeting even when you don't need k that way you can save the extra for fun stuff! I spend between 70-100 a week on groceries for a family of 4 soon to be 5 .. Netflix not cable our net flux is ran off of our internet on our phones. Marking sure lights etc are off when not in use just simple things...

It depends on the income I think . My husband makes $3,500/month. I haven’t had baby yet so couldn’t tell you how it’s going to be when baby actually gets here . I know there will be more expenses on top of what we have now but we are trying to prepare ahead of time with just his income . It’s working but it is tight for sure. I would suggest To see if you qualify for WIC to help with a lot of baby’s needs 😊. Also we have been trying to build up a special savings for when baby gets here .

Really it just comes down to income and budget. I would love to be a stay at home mom but it’s just not realistic for our situation.

I'm a stay home wife soon to be a stay at home mom and the trick is to budget carefully and stick to it. If you keep working during your pregnancy you would have more money to save for after the baby. If you leave work fairly early you will have plenty of time to stock up on things like diaper (what I would call the #1 expense of a new baby) using coupons and sales.
