Do you consider popularity when picking a name?

Question

I’ve loved the name Charlotte forever (I’m also from Charlotte, NC and love the connection to my hometown now that I’ve grown and moved) BUT that name is so popular! Should that matter? Or if you love a name, choose it!

So we actually named our daughter Charlotte Rose, which are two of the most popular names for girls right now. But they mean so much to us and our family, and have generational ties and are just so timeless and beautiful to me. 
I was really bothered at first that my daughter would have such a popular name. But at the end of the day, i didn’t want the fact that other people loved the name to take away my joy from naming my daughter. Plus, the nickname potential with Charlotte is endless. My husband wanted to call her Charlie, I wanted to call her Lottie, but now at 2.5 years old the only thing we call her is Chacha and it fits her perfectly.
I say go for it. I haven’t regretted it for an instant.  I guess I can’t say what will happen when she’s school aged, I might feel different if she has 6 Charlottes in her class, but she can at least be grateful I didn’t name her something crazy like Lightning McGee or Cloudy Daze.

I'm having the same issue with our boy name, Caleb. I love it and have for years,  but it's getting too popular for my liking so idk what we'll do.

No, we have two choices for each gender, and one of each of those is edging into the top lists for both. They’re strong traditional names which are cute as babies and carry well as adults. Names become popular generally because they are quite likeable!

I never thought I would choose a popular name; however, my husband said Owen and I fell in love. I believe that if you love it and it has meaning, choose it!

Both me and my boyfriend has grown up being mentioned by last name because we were a lot with those names. So we won't necessarily pick a super unique name, but we are avoiding the most popular ones. I've always LOVED the name William, but it's been on top ten for the past six years here so I've accepted that I won't ever get to use that 😂
And now we are expecting a girl anyway so I guess that solves that problem 😂
