IUI in India

Jill • FTM to our one and only Neal.

My DH is from Mumbai and on our visit to India this year we have decided to get some fertility testing done since our insurance in the US doesn't cover it and really haven't been getting anywhere talking to doctors about it.

I had a cyst on my left ovary that had been causing pain and my obgyn suggested removing it laproscopically, after which she told me it ended up being an endometrioma, but no other signs of endometriosis. It took 3 months to get to that point, after which my doc said, you look all good, let me know when you get pregnant! :-/ As if this surgery had solved everything, despite the fact that we had been trying naturally for almost 2yrs.

In 1 visit to the IVF clinic in India after waiting just 2hrs for results, the wonderful lady doctor told me I had an endometrioma on my left ovary (didn't need surgery and 3months of waiting and watching to diagnose!!) and after 6 yrs of marriage and 3yrs of unprotected sex with no pregnancy was odd and they would like to move forward because everything else tested normal for me and DH. I was close to borderline on my AMH test, but still an ok number. I'm 35, DH 32.

We jumped right in that day aiming for IUI before our trip was done. The timing has been just right! 75iu of Menopur that day and the next 2 days. We had 1 day of no injection and the follicle they were monitoring continued to grow unassisted and a 2nd one popped up too! Apparently my follicles lag in their growth so today was CD19 and I had my HCG trigger shot with one follicle 19-20 and the smaller one 16-17.

We have instructions to return tomorrow for the first IUI. They will confirm ovulation first and then perform the procedure. They said they will do a second round as well the next day if ovulation hadn't occured yet at the time of the appt since it can take 12-48hrs for ovulation to occur after the trigger.

I'm nervous, excited and wishing we didn't have to go home in a week! The doctors here have been so much more informative and proactive and getting in for all the procedures has been so quick! AND sooo much cheaper!

Fingers crossed that all goes well tomorrow and praying that I am among the percentage of successful IUIers!
