Birth certificate

Skye
I'm due with my son December 22 and I have a name picked out and the father told me I can use my last name for the baby. The father and I are not together and will not get back together but we are civil and are on good terms for the baby. He wants to be on the birth certificate obviously but I have been told if he's listed as the father the child automatically gets his last name. Is this true? I live in Florida if that changes anything.

I'm in Florida and I haven't heard of that. You choose your baby's name.

It sounded weird to me and didn't make sense but some laws are strange. Thank you!

I'm in Florida too and it's not right. You can pick whatever name you want too. If it will help tho, they will come in and talk to you about it and you can just ask and reassure yourself then. Or when they ask the name, just tell them what you want and forget about it. Good luck and congrats!!!

No you can give the baby your name, and if he's on the birth certificate it will be easier for you to get support from him if he doesn't want to provide willingly

If your not married the baby gets your last name. Even if he signs the birth certificate. Oh an just FYI you guys I the birth certificate gets changed the social security doesn't .

I'm pretty sure you can give the baby any name you want. You could even make one up if you wanted.

His last name will be what You want it to be regardless of if he is on it or not.

Not true! You get to choose your babies name, nobody can make you give that baby a name you didn't choose
